I'd just like to add...
I love the outdoors, but a bum knee keeps me from hiking like I used to. I've taken up kayaking to compensate, and have grown to love it (I did a lot of canoeing in my youth, so it comes naturally.)
I have an affable cat, who acts like a dog. I would have Golden Retrievers if my living situation allowed, because no animal can love you like a Golden.
