A little about me...
Since we are all defined by our experiences I thought that I would try to enumerate some of mine. I am a widower. My wife died a 3 years ago from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). My wife was much more than my spouse; she was my best friend and partner. She kept me going when things were darkest. I cherish my christian faith, LCMS. I am a former Marine, a retired Sgt. from Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, and a former Director of Radiochemistry at Washington State University's Nuclear Radiation Center. I resigned my position at WSU to care for my wife.I am currently a Chemistry Professor at Whitworth University.
I am upbeat but sometimes procrastinate over unimportant things I really don't want to do. I have 4 wonderful daughters and six granddaughters. I have some very close friends that have helped me through this rough period. I value education and feel that it is important to keep up with the youth of today.
Some of my specific personality traits are: I'm a type A personality who has been mellowed by adversity. I'm generous to a fault, easy going, while I enjoy spirited discussions I refuse to even bicker with my family. God is foremost in my life.
I love dogs and horses and do not like cats .
About the one I'm looking for...
I am looking for another needle in a haystack. I firmly believe in friendship first and always. I believe a successful marriage is based on a strong faith in Christ and an equitable partnership based on mutual love, consideration and respect. Relationships are give and take and the best ones are when you put your partner first. Neither partner does most of the giving or taking.
I am looking for my next best friend; someone that makes my heart jump when she walks into a room or smiles at me. She needs to be honest, loyal, a little silly, and is not afraid to laugh at me or herself.
I'd just like to add...
I feel I have been blessed and help others to pass on my blessings. I feel that giving anonymously blesses myself as well as the recipient.
I love being outside when it is sunny and even more if it's warm. I treasure honesty, integrity, consideration, and loyalty. I am politically conservative and hold our constitution second in importance to the bible. My music tastes vary from Classic 50's Rock N Roll, to elevator music, to classic country to symphonies. I coached softball for 14 years, mostly co-ed but also men’s and co-ed youth teams, and love baseball. I enjoy hunting and fly fishing even though I rarely get any game and my fly presentation is way less than perfect. I tie wet flies for my own amusement and use. My wife taught me to love and chase rainbows. One of our friends once told us that you need X number of hugs per day for good mental health, where X was some number greater than you had already received; I miss those also. May your day and life be blessed!

My Top Interests:
Religion and Spirituality
Without my faith in the Trinity my life would be wasted. While many non-believers see Christianity as a "crutch" and restrictions on life; I see it as a road map to true life and true freedom.
Family and Friends
The love and faith of my family and friends were very important and necessary to me in dealing with the death of my wife of 44 years.
Nature and Outdoors
I am an avid fly fisherman and hunter and went hunting the first time when I was 4 years old. I have the same nature stewardship and philosophy now as I did when I was a wee tike. As with my friends, it is not necessary to bring home game to have a very successful and enjoyable outdoor experience. I also spend a lot of relaxing time observing all aspects of nature: bird watching, hiking, observing animals in their natural habitat and going to zoos.
