A little about me...
Leaving for awhile as of 1/15. Well educated (PhD), well traveled, multilingual, healthy (but with glasses and hearing aids), presentable (can match my shirt and pants), financially stable, moderate Republican. Mormon.
Interested in cultural history, art history, ancient cultures, etc. I'm a museum crawler. NOT into pop culture, and I don't get all excited about current politics, either.
The last 11 years of my working life were spent in Germany, where I worked as a civilian Station Chief/foreign-language interrogator in the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA). My working languages were Russian, Polish, German and Croatian (this last one was for work with Bosnian Muslims seeking asylum in Germany). Since retirement I've forgotten my Croatian, but have picked up some Spanish for travel south of the border.
Retired federal employee (DIA) and also retired Air Force Reserve, but have only a moderate retirement income.
I can't afford Europe anymore, so nowadays I generally just go south of the border (Meso-America and South America), where I spend most of my time visiting ruins of ancient civilizations. I thrive on purposeful travel.
About the one I'm looking for...
Looking for someone quite intelligent and/or well educated. Gentle and reasonably refined are musts. Gentle, because I'm a tender soul. And refined, not especially because that's how I'd describe myself, but because I'm like, kind of, generally, sort of aimed in that direction, and it'd be nice to have someone compatible along the way.
I'd just like to add...
I like to camp (mainly to get away from straight lines) but these days it's almost always in my old motor home. My favorite campsite is up in the mountains just half an hour from home, and during the summer I go up once a week for two or three days of eating/sleeping/reading.
I read non-fiction, prefer classical music, listen to National Public Radio, watch stuff like the National Geographic channel, Austin City Limits, Nova and BYU sports on TV. Life's too short to worry about the other 900 or so channels. Oooo, and I do like a good shoot-'em-up (hey, I'm male, okay?).

A. Just OK
Q. How much do you like reading?
A. I love it
My Top Interests:
I've spent a considerable amount of time in Europe, and love to travel internationally, but because of budgetary limitations since retirement, I usually go south of the border.
My favorite country to visit is Turkey.
For ancient cultures, New Testament history, Muslim mosques and friendly people you just can't beat it.
I have three masters and a PhD, and not a lick of common sense. I'll never take another test, but studying (not learning) is a lifelong habit. I mean, what the heck, at least I'm not hurting anyone.
Mainly classical, even though it results in some sense of social isolation.
