A little about me...
Well educated (PhD), well traveled, multilingual, healthy (but with glasses and hearing aids), presentable (can match my shirt and pants), financially stable, moderate Republican. Mormon.
Interested in cultural history, art history, ancient cultures, etc. I'm a museum crawler. NOT into pop culture, and I don't get all excited about current politics, either.
The last 11 years of my working life were spent in Germany, where I worked as a civilian Station Chief/Foreign-Language Interrogator in the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA). My working languages were Russian, Polish, German and Croatian (this last one was for work with Bosnian Muslims seeking asylum in Germany). Since retirement I've forgotten my Croatian, but have picked up some Spanish for travel south of the border.
Retired federal employee (DIA), also retired Air Force Reserve, but have only a moderate retirement income.
I can't afford Europe anymore, so nowadays I generally just go south of the border (Meso-America and South America), where I spend most of my time visiting ruins of ancient civilizations. I thrive on purposeful travel.
About the one I'm looking for...
Looking for someone quite intelligent and/or well educated. Gentle and reasonably refined are musts. Gentle, because I'm a tender soul. And refined, not especially because that's how I'd describe myself, but because I'm like, kind of, generally, sort of aimed in that direction, and it'd be nice to have someone compatible along the way.
Also, if you've used up your total supply of hormones, please just walk on by. I may have one foot in the grave, but I ain't there yet, thank you very much.
I'd just like to add...
I'm actually 80, but fudged a little so as not to fall completely outside of everyone's search parameters. I mean, once you've passed 80, you're supposed to be dead, right?
I like to camp (mainly to get away from straight lines) but these days it's almost always in my old motor home. My favorite campsite is up in the mountains just half an hour from home, and during the summer I go up once a week for two or three days of eating/sleeping/reading.
I read non-fiction, prefer classical music, listen to National Public Radio, watch stuff like the National Geographic channel, Austin City Limits, Nova and BYU sports on TV. Life's too short to worry about the other 900 or so channels. Oooo, and I do like a good shoot-'em-up (hey, I'm male, okay?).
Incidentally, the scars over the eyes are NOT from a botched face-lift. They're the result of operations over both eyes to save my eyesight. The eyes were/are fine, but the shtupid eyelids were cramping (not drooping, but cramping) on me, so out came some muscles from eyebrows to eyelashes. I mean, I was never very handsome, but this is just dumb.
