A little about me...
I love to paddle and camp in the wilderness, travel, participate in cross country ski races, and race in triathlons. Unfortunately, I have inherited a very rare neuromuscular degenerative disease which has taken away my balance and coordination.
But for the last 18 years, raising my daughter has been my highest priority. I am just starting to get back into doing things for myself. My daughter graduated from high school last year. My daughter is at the U of MN-College of Liberal Arts. I am so proud of her!
It took me a few years, but I finally did a triathlon as a disabled athlete in 2009. My last triathlon. as an able-bodied athlete had been in 1999. My ski race and triathlete friend accompanied me in 2009, and again in 2012.
Even though my participation in endurance sports has been highly curtailed, I still love to talk about them.
I have now completed 3 triathlons. I learned a lot, but do not plan to do any more. Being an active, disabled person is enough for me.
I am fun loving, determined, competitive, very open-minded, self-reliant, and grounded. .Life as an empty nester allows me to spend time how I want. I would love to find a man to be a companion and grow into a deep friendship..
About the one I'm looking for...
The many typical things that a man may want to "do" in getting to know me cannot easily be done due to the physical limits that this disease has put on my life. But it takes a special person to see beyond my physical limits in getting to know me. My personality has not been altered by this disease. But that is why it takes a man who values relating to a woman as a friend, first. Building a relationship through 'doing active" things, I am unable to do.
The person who I am looking for is a man who wants to become my friend, first. Like my active friendship with a person that has lasted since college, she is able to value my personality traits of being fun loving, determined, competitive, very open-minded, self-reliant, and grounded. My neuromuscular disease defines me only physically. But it will take a man who can see beyond the physical aspects of what I can do. Therefore, I am looking for a special person who is willing to build a relationship via non-traditional avenues.
I'd just like to add...
I like being active, and doing things.although "doing things" will look different. I value relationships and the continual efforts that need to be taken in order to keep them growing and healthy. I also value a person's spirituality. I respect how a person expresses their spirituality be it within an organized religion or not.
