A little about me...
Life-long learner--love traveling, visiting museums and learning about different cultures. Am most happy involved in outdoor activities including gardening, hiking, kayaking, birding. Inquisitive, easy-going, optimistic, generous, tolerant of differences, politically liberal, extremely idealistic, bilingual, spiritual, teacher, involved grandma are words that describe me.
The following are some of the things that make me unique:
I was raised on a small family farm in Oregon and I lived on that same farm as an adult, keeping livestock and bees as well as teaching full-time. In between those two sojourns on the farm, I lived British Columbia, and in Micronesia, where I met my now deceased husband, a Micronesian. I lived in Hawaii for a few years and then moved back to Oregon to help my parents who were in poor health.
I was a vegetarian for much of my life, although I've fallen off that wagon for now. I don't wear make-up and prefer to dress comfortably and casually, and although I like to get dressed up once in awhile, I consider high heels torture instruments designed by a misogynist.
I am a compulsive recycler, drive a Prius, and read magazines like The Nation, and The Progressive. So there you have it--the real real me.
About the one I'm looking for...
Would love to meet someone who is a doer and thinker. Someone who is intelligent, tolerant, kind and warm. A man who likes to read, go to thought-provoking movies, laugh out loud, and generally make the world a better place to live. I don't care about traditional good looks--but working to keep healthy would be a good trait in a companion. Although some people I love smoke, I really don't like the smell of tobacco. No serious drinking or drug-using, please. I think we all need to keep working at being the best person we can be.
Although I have friends and co-workers who would describe themselves as conservative, I truly believe that liberals and conservatives have different world views, and possibly even different brains. I can co-exist with conservatives, but would probably not be very comfortable in a close relationship with one. Just saying.
I'd just like to add...
My 91 year-old mother lives with me during winter, so I can't travel far from home when she is here. I am involved with my grandchildren, and I work part-time, but I miss the adult companionship of a good friend and a sense of adventure. My life has become too predictable and safe. I'm not ready to sit in the rocking chair and watch the world go by.
