A little about me...
Retired now after working for the State of VT for 23+ years.i was a career counselor & welfare case manager. in other lifetimes i've been a college instructor, a mental health worker, cut firewood, worked construction.

The most important change since first posting my profile is that I AM GETTING FIT AGAIN, HOORAY! About time. it got down to now or never. I've lost 25 lbs., have more to go, exercise aerobically 5-7 times a week, and am PSYCHED.

besides this & my family (my girls are 29 & 24, & the youngest has a daughter age 5; I see them often), my strongest interests are music, reading, movies, plays, museums, eating out, travel & sight-seeing. i am at this phase of my life i am introverted and so i am hoping for a friend with whom to share these activities. I have been, until recently, inside oriented, & have indulged this with an outrageous music CD collection, & a good library of actual books. A living anachronism in our digital age. I have a cell phone & an Ipod, but I do not see any Kindles in my life. no objection if you use one.

i would like a committed relationship, but not necessarily living together. after all, i've a houseful of stuff, and need alone time to recharge my batteries. but never say never, though, r

About the one I'm looking for...
someone with whom there is chemistry, of course, and friendship and respect. someone who can be patient with me about my foibles and idiosyncracies, as there are inevitably some. someone obviously with whom to share mutual interests and enjoy each other's company. a sense of humor. not afraid to tease gently and to be teased back. financially stable. comfortable with who she is, her strengths and weaknesses, her emotional stability. non-smoker, social drinker or a beer/wine/cocktail with dinner, or not a drinker (i can take it or leave it, currently will have some red wine on rare occasions.)

I'd just like to add...
to paraphrase mel brooks, i think it was, i was born at a very early age, in Baltimore; then grew up also in Philadelphia and Cincinnati. went to college in cleveland, then grad school at kent state (after the shootings, though i've known people who were there); finished a M.A. in counseling locally at Antioch. i've lived in several places all over the country but this area has been home for over 30 years.

i am the oldest of 3, my brother lives near my mom near DC, he has 4 sons (!); my sis lives in AZ, married without children. my dad, deceased, was a public health scientist and administrator; my mom was a nurse and at 89 she is in great shape, still drives the capitol beltway, and well too!

I am a liberal and proud of it!!! I adhere to the maxim that the goal of Liberalism is to increase both freedom and responsibility in the world. I am a sincere person, at least I try to be, that is one of the strongest values with which I was raised. I am Jewish and raised in an observant household (not orthodox) but think of myself more of a Taoist though without an active spiritual practice. I know for sure that spirituality, morality and the Creation exist, I'm just not so sure of an ultimate guiding uber-intelligence
